George W. Carver - A fascinating life story
Lawrence Elliott | Neukirchener Aussaat | 219 pages | €14.99
George W. Carver lived from 1864 to 1943. Born into slavery in the American South, he grew up as an orphan in abject poverty. After being taken in by a white farming couple, he became a gifted chemist, botanist, and inventor, as well as a painter and pianist. As a professor of botany, he developed methods to improve the harvests of poor farmers. He discovered over 300 uses for the small, previously overlooked peanut alone, thus creating an alternative to cotton picking for many people.
The greatest achievement of this remarkable man, however, was that, as a devout Christian, despite all his success, he dedicated himself with great commitment and impressive selflessness to embodying courage and purpose in life for African Americans, thereby profoundly impacting the people around him. George W. Carver's biography is not only a moving life story, told in a vivid and engaging way, but also a powerful antidote to despondency and discouragement.
While reading this story, I was deeply moved by this man who owned nothing and seemed to have no future, yet held fast to his courage and hope, and from that, something so great could emerge. It's astonishing that God placed people by his side who supported him and, in this way, were able to share in his success. This book shows once again: God has a plan for each of us, even if we don't see the destination at the beginning. He, the Lord, works everything out for our good—if we trust in Him!
