Many young Christians dream of going on a mission trip to proclaim God's love to people in distant regions. But does it necessarily have to be a long journey to Africa or India, or can mission work be much easier to accomplish? A youth group from Speyer decided to use their annual youth trip not only for themselves, but also for others.
Our youth trip this year was also intended to be a mission trip. That was our goal. On May 7th, the day finally arrived. Our group of 15 members gathered at the airport, full of anticipation. The journey to Bulgaria could begin. After arriving in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, we were able to experience this beautiful, historic metropolis for two whole days.
We spent a lot of time together in worship services at various locations around the city, but we also enjoyed fellowship and extensive sightseeing. On our last day in Sofia, we had the opportunity to conduct a service at the local church and thus be a blessing. After the service, we spent time with the missionary couple, Brother Peter and Sister Luba, and got to know them better.

Practical mission assignment – renovation of a residential building
Our next destination was the small town of Krivodol, about a two-hour drive north of Sofia. This would be the base for our further adventures. The area around the neighboring town of Vratsa boasts numerous natural attractions, including the many caves in the region. We explored these on a day trip and had a wonderful time with the group. Upon our return to Krivodol, we were presented with a delightful opportunity for missionary work. Local children ran towards us, eager to play.
With God's help, we were able to turn this situation into a children's service. The highlight was the story of "Daniel in the Lions' Den," which we were able to bring to life for the children through role-playing. When we asked the children at the end of the service if they would like to share a personal testimony from their lives, one boy jumped up, recounted an experience with his friend, and thus glorified God. Praise be to the Lord for that! A girl also shared about her prayer life and testified to God's work in her life. After the service, we spent the evening around a campfire.
The next day, a practical mission assignment awaited us. We went to the small town of Belo Pole, where we were to help with the renovation of a house. Besides working on the roof, we also had to remove the old clay from between the rafters in the rooms. It was real backbreaking work, but overall, we enjoyed it immensely. One moment in particular has stayed with me. A brother was standing on the old clay floor that still needed to be removed.
But suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, the ground gave way beneath his feet and he fell into the room below. We were very grateful to God that nothing serious had happened. Back in Krivodol, we were able to hold a prayer meeting with the group and end the day in this special way.

Excursion to the caves in "Wraza"
The next day promised another special experience. We set off to explore a natural phenomenon with the beautiful name "God's Bridge"—a huge, naturally formed rock formation. The hike led through a kind of cave system beneath the rocks.
Here we were reminded of the biblical stories of David, how he had to seek refuge in caves in numerous situations. The following days were also full of fellowship, whether playing games, participating in activities, or strolling through the city. But not only that. We were also privileged to experience great blessings during the church services and even to participate in a healing through prayer.
For many of us, this trip was our first mission trip, but it left a lasting impression on everyone. The insights we gained into the living conditions of the people in Bulgaria touched us deeply. We became more grateful to God for all the good things we take for granted here. All glory to God! The trip strengthened our group, and we are already looking forward to the next youth mission trip.
