This book, with its simplistic cover image, doesn't exert much appeal. Even less so the title, which invites the reader to an uncomfortable task. Prayer is no longer fashionable. Perhaps that's also why this is a considerably older book. These days, books about prayer are rarely written.
While the main theme of this book is prayer, the focus is on its connection to preaching. The original English title is "Preacher and Prayer." The German title was changed.
The author, Edward McKendree Bounds, was a Methodist in the Wesley tradition. He wrote extensively about prayer and practiced it himself. For years, he prayed every morning from four to seven o'clock. I personally appreciate the depth and practical relevance of this book. It is written in a lively, fresh, and highly topical style. I especially recommend it for preachers and those who wish to renew their prayer life.
