Times are changing. Even for Christians. Biblical ways of life are no longer in demand and are being increasingly pushed aside. The pleasant and comfortable years seem to be over –
Uncertainty is spreading. How do we deal with it? How will we be able to thrive in this post-Christian society? What does God expect of us today? The Word of God can give us reliable answers to these difficult questions as well!
The author of this book skillfully applies the first seven chapters of the prophet Daniel to our present day and current situation. He vividly portrays the plight of the Jews oppressed and discouraged in Babylonian exile, and in particular, the exemplary life of Daniel. Throughout, he draws parallels to the present, demonstrating that we, too, can rely on the same God who was active then. Daniel knew his God. This gave him the strength to respond courageously and kindly to his hostile surroundings; the wisdom to see through all attacks from God's perspective; and the faithfulness to serve his God in the heart of Babylon. The same principles by which Daniel lived will also make us victorious today.
It is very encouraging that, even in our situation, we don't have to rely on human opinions, but can orient ourselves by the example of God's eternally valid and reliable Word. Reading this book has given me great confidence that our God is in control even in difficult times and is always with His children.
